A MESSAGE FROM CCCAOE PRESIDENT, Pedro Mendez

Serving alongside extraordinary California Community College leaders who tirelessly devote their time and energy to Career Education is an honor. CCCAOE continues to actively invest as an association with a mission to be a “CHAMPION FOR EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE SUCCESS” and a vision of “AN EDUCATION AND CAREER FOR EVERYONE AT ANY TIME.” 

 

Over the past several years, I have served on the CCCAOE Board in multiple capacities. I consider it a privilege to serve as your President. This board and the members of our four working committees are investing of themselves with high integrity and intentionality to bring its members quality opportunities that impact our California Community College Students to achieve career mobility and success. 

In recent years, the CCCAOE board developed our association’s Equity Statement. This statement is listed below and is an important priority.

 

“Educational equity is serving members by providing access, opportunity, and resources through fair and balanced support for transformational success for students.” We are committed to working toward educational equity by:

  • Ensuring the inclusion of diverse perspectives in professional learning services 
  • Providing resources through advocacy for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. 
  • Engaging membership
  • Building equity leadership capacity
  • Examining and interrupting inequitable policies and practices

 

As I begin my tenure as your CCCAOE President, I am committed to having our Equity Statement be one of our key driving tenets interwoven within our strategic goals and plans for the future. CCCAOE has a strong 56-year-old history in supporting Career Education across the state, from rural to urban and everything in between. With the assistance and contributions from so many of you, practitioners and leaders, engaged with the Ambassadors, Professional Development, Membership Engagement, and Advocacy Committees, I will strive to lead with integrity and intentionality as we all navigate the delivery of community college supportive services and education that best impacts our students, campuses, and communities.

The Goals of this CCCAOE Board Fall Under 3 Broad Groups

Membership Engagement Goals

  1. Create attractive and easy to use technology tools and resources
    1. Content that is organized and easy to find
    2. Input processing is facilitated, develop a protocol for information sharing (reports, best practices, resource links, etc)
    3. Improve our Constant Contact and LinkedIn utilization
  2. Increase membership involvement for committee participation, local/regional/state leadership, and succession planning.
    1. Document/Develop a map of involvement opportunities (conference attendance, committee participation, committee chair, RAVP, RVP, Executive Board)
    2. Develop a presentation of CCCAOE Board participation (PPT on website, presented as slides to be delivered at Leadership Academy, conference, etc)
    3. Create a communication and implementation plan

Advocacy Goals

In 2021, CCCAOE will have developed a membership-vetted and approved, concrete platform which drives our activities on a grassroots, local, institutional, regional, state and federal level.

Professional Development Goals

For website to be used in outward facing communication.

 

Serve as the state wide leader in professional development for the CTE/EWD system, while continuously improving opportunities and increasing participation by 10% annually.
